New York features over 40 ski areas, which is actually more than in any other state. Whiteface, Windham and Gore Mountain tend to be very popular, and in the winter months offer some great skiing. Whiteface mountain is outside of Lake Placid, a few hour drive from NYC and was home to the winter olympics. At almost 1,524 m, the mountain has long runs, 115 ha of terrain and off-piste double-black diamond wilderness terrain and also a great ski school for the kids. Windham mountain is another great option with 115 ha and just 2 hours from NYC.
