Challenge Level
Kirkwood is known for being a ski heaven for advanced and experts with majority of the terrain here rated as black or double blacks. Timber Creek Base Area has a learning area and some blue runs nearby but other than this there isn't much on offer for beginners and intermediates.

Accessibility
The drive to Kirkwood can be windy and icy depending on the weather so it is best to check the CalTrans website for road conditions before heading out. Keep in mind, parking is on a first come, first serve basis and can get full during holiday periods. To keep things hassle free, there is a ski bus from the Bay Area and Sacramento to Kirkwood. If you are flying into Reno-Tahoe, there are also car rentals and airport shuttles available.

When To Go
March-April are a great time to visit Kirkwood. As a less crowded resort Kirkwood is great to visit all season, outside of holiday periods including December, Martin Luther King weekend and Presiden'ts Day weekend. For great snowfall, March-April is still a great time to visit Kirkwood following their snow storms.
